Reproductive Sciences Center History

Reproductive Sciences Center is a comprehensive office-based fertility center located in San Diego, California, and was founded by our infertility doctors over a decade ago based on the belief that sophisticated state-of-the-art infertility care should be provided in a caring, individualized environment.

Innovation and Excellence in Fertility Care

Reproductive Sciences Center has introduced several techniques to the San Diego area, techniques that have resulted in the first successful pregnancies resulting from subzonal sperm injection (SUZI), intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), microsurgical epididymal sperm aspiration (MESA), and testicular sperm aspiration (TESE) and were among the first in the world to successfully perform cytoplasmic transfer and assisted fertilization (calcium ionophore treatment) for severe male factor cases. These accomplishments have led to national and international recognition. Reproductive Sciences Center has cared for patients living throughout California, the United States and worldwide.

Our IVF Laboratory

The Reproductive Sciences Center laboratories include IVF, Andrology, Endocrinology and Preimplantation Genetic Screening laboratories. Our laboratories are inspected annually and are fully accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP), and licensed by the State of California Laboratory Field Division and Dept. of Tissue Banking (license). We hold current federal accreditation through the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act (CLIA). Our entire facility is inspected every three years and is fully accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC). As a medical facility, we are inspected annually by the County of San Diego Health Services Dept. We are a reporting fertility clinic with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and with the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technologies (SART). We are members in good standing of the American Association of Tissue Banks, SART and the San Diego Reproductive Endocrine Society.

Our senior laboratory staff has more than 40 years combined experience in human reproductive and genetics laboratories, and are individually credentialed by the American Board of Bioanalysis, the American Association of Tissue Banks and the National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel.

The IVF laboratory meets strict cleanroom environmental standards, and is equipped with state of the art air filtration, incubators, workspaces, microscopes and micromanipulation systems. The IVF laboratory is located directly adjacent to our procedure room in order to optimize transfer of gametes and embryos between the two rooms.

Our AAAHC accredited procedure room and anesthesia services allow us to perform all egg retrievals, embryo transfers, surgical sperm retrievals and other fertility-related procedures in-house.

Our Preimplantation Genetic Screening laboratory features the most current fluorescent microscopy and imaging analysis systems available, and is the only such facility in San Diego County. Performing embryo aneuploidy screening in-house allows us maximum flexibility in offering these services to our patients, and avoids the perils of sending precious embryo biopsy specimens out of the region or out of state for analysis.
